5 Things you should know before traveling to Taiwan

Every country has different rules to follow. So before you go to Taiwan, make sure to remember the following.

There are a lot of things you should know but these are the daily routines that you'll encounter when traveling to Taiwan, especially number 1. Thank me later.

5. Language barrier

As you may know, an overseas Chinese like me who was born in the Philippines is still having difficulties communicating with locals. Although some can still speak English. I think it is really important for you to know when you travel in Taiwan that NOT ALL can speak the "universal language" so be prepared. It'll be great if there is someone with you who can speak their language so it'll be much easier. But, if you want to challenge yourself. Feel free to do so. Goodluck!

4. Drinks & foods are not allowed inside train station or MRT.

There is a fine for NT$7,500 if you drink or eat inside the MRT. But if you have a lot of money, go ahead and give it a try. Lol! And, of course, everyone should know that no one is allowed to smoke inside. That's why I only mentioned food and beverages because in some countries these things are allowed.

3. Do not stick chopsticks into your food

You may not mean to but if you stick chopsticks to your food, for Taiwanese culture it symbolizes death. A curse, a taboo, bad luck, all the awful things you could think of because this reminds people of the incense used in a funeral.

2. Always stand on the right side of escalator

Stand on the right, walk on the left. A lot knows this etiquette but some still stand on the left side *face palm* Especially in Taipei during rush hours never stand on the left. Be respectful, you don't want to get bumped or scolded by locals, right? So follow the escalator etiquette.

1. NEVER throw your receipts

Okay, in the Philippines, no one doesn't know what Lotto means. If you win the lottery you'll get a jackpot prize worth millions of pesos. Well, just like in Taiwan, Although you can luckily win millions by just buying toilet paper or a coffee in a 7/11 or any store. So never throw the receipts. Or better to donate it to me. Who knows, I might win. Your money will not be wasted. LOL!
