My Top 5 Favorite Manga

"Reader discretion is advised" Do you like horror manga? Well, lucky you! I'll list down my top 5 favorite manga.

What manga is best to read? I may not be a professional #manga critic but I'm in love with it, especially horror & gore type manga. It's not weird as long as you just only enjoy reading it and nothing else. If you know what I mean, lol! Tried my best to narrow down my top 5 because I love all horror stuff. I see blood - Check. I see scary stuff - Check. I see crazy things going on - Check.

"I am a horror maniac who prefers to stay at home.” Junji Ito

5. Kamisama no Iutoori (神さまの言うとおり)

Volumes: 26 | Chapters: 207 (Including 1 & 2)

Genres: Action, Drama, Horror, Supernatural, Gore, Psychological, School

Written by Kaneshiro, Muneyuki and illustrated by Fujimura, Akeji. Kamisama no Iutoori or As the Gods Will is composed of two parts.

As the Gods Will

Shun Takahata finds his daily life boring and uneventful—that is, until his teacher's head explodes. Out of the remains of the corpse comes forth a Daruma doll, marking the beginning of a sadistic game. All who move when the Daruma is looking will be killed, and the winner is the one to push the button on the Daruma's back.

As the Gods Will: The Second Series

High school student Yasuto Akashi's day begins like any other, but a fight with his best friend—Senichi Aoyama—causes him to skip school. Akashi realizes that he is in the wrong, and so he immediately returns to school. However, instead of open gates, he finds the school completely sealed off from the outside world. Soon after, a giant cat's head blasts through the windows, and Akashi spots Aoyama dressed in a rat costume while drenched in blood.

Only three students manage to leave school alive that day, and similar occurrences are reported throughout the world. Akashi is not free from harm, however, as he is invited to partake in a deadly game whose participants are composed of those who missed school on that fateful day.

4. Ito-Junji Kyoufu Manga Collection

Volumes: ? | Chapters: ?

Genres: Drama, Horror, Mystery, Supernatural, Psychological

Written and illustrated by Itou Junji. If you don't know who is he, he loves cat. Lol! He is one of my favorite manga artists I respect the most although sometimes some of his pictures I saw is really funny. I love all his works. It is too many that I ended up attaching the link below so you can see the full list. MyAnimeList's Junji Ito's manga lists

ENJOY!! *demon laugh*

3. Kyoufu Jigoku Shoujo (恐怖・地獄少女)

Volumes: 1 | Chapters: 13

Genres: Drama, Horror

Written and illustrated by Hino Hideshi, also one of my favorite manga artists. I've read a lot of his works but Kyoufu Jigoku Shoujo will be the highlight. I still love Jigoku no Komoriuta, Dokumushi Kozou, Skin and Bone, Jigoku Mushi wo Kuu! Oninbo and Panorama of Hell though.

Kyoufu Jigoku Shoujo or Hell's Baby is a story about twin sisters born on a stormy night. One of the girls is healthy and normal in every regard—the other is hideously deformed and craves blood rather than milk. The father of the girls is unwilling to accept the deformed twin into his family and so he places her in a sack and disposes of her at a rubbish dump. After that, something awful is about to happen.

I don't want to give too much spoils so, one thing I will say, I cried with this manga.

2. Green Worldz

Volumes: 8 | Chapters: 114

Genres: Action, Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi, Supernatural

A Japanese manga written and illustrated by Oosawa, Yuusuke. It is about Urabe Akira, a high school student who finds himself trying to survive in the plant's invasion of the planet. In the year 2017, vegetation in Tokyo suddenly increased and turned into an apocalyptic state. Plants start to devour human beings and take over everything. Few people, including Akira who managed to escape from becoming the plant's source of food escaped to the underground subways. And the story begins.

I'm totally having mixed emotions in the ending. Worth a read, I wonder if there will be anime adaptations for this.

1. Homunculus (ホムンクルス)

Volumes: 15 | Chapters: 166

Genres: Drama, Horror, Mystery, Supernatural, Psychological

A Japanese manga written and illustrated by Hideo Yamamoto 山本英夫. It is a story of Susumu Nakoshi, a middle-aged man who spends his days between a first-class hotel and a park full of homeless people. One day, a young man approaches Nakoshi in search of subjects willing to partake in trepanation or trephination. It is a procedure of drilling a hole in the skull.

In 2021, Netflix created a live adaption of Homunculus which is really great. I really love this manga that whoever asks for a suggestion, this is the first one I always recommend.
